Volunteers

First Universalist is alive with activity, as we care for our organization, our buildings and grounds, and our community. We encourage all members and friends to get involved. Volunteer opportunities abound—from quick-and-easy things like ushering at Sunday Service to more regular involvement like committee work. For ideas and details, see our Volunteer Opportunities Page, or contact any of the leaders listed below.

Board of Trustees:

This is the church’s governing body. It usually meets the third Sunday of the month after worship service—members and friends of the church are always welcome to attend. Trustees are elected by the congregation at the Annual Meeting (every June) and can serve two two-year terms. The Board is the primary policy-setting body and oversees the work of the rest of the church.

The Work of Committees:

Everything this church engages in should deepen our spiritual lives, further our quest for meaning, help us to live fully and with more joy, and serve the needs of our church, our community, and the world.

Committees at our church are creative teams who imagine what can be done and find and coordinate people who are willing to help realize the committee’s dreams. Committees here are not just groups of task-oriented people, they are small communities of individuals gathering to share their skills and talents for the greater good. We focus not so much on getting things done as on continuing and expanding the overall mission of the church.

Committees:

For more information about any of these groups and/or about how you can get involved, contact a committee leader or the church office. Anyone, whether a formal member of the church or not, is welcome to attend any committee meeting.

Caring Connection
As a caring community, we strive to meet one another’s needs—a ride to the doctor, help shoveling snow, a casserole during a hard time. This committee coordinates those who have a need and those who want to help.

Church Library
Our church library is rich with resources and always growing with a broad range of topics. Books, videos, and audiotapes are always available for browsing and borrowing.

Communications
Staying up-to-date with the whos, whats, wheres, whens, and hows in this busy community is an ongoing challenge. Currently, notices are posted in a newsletter, this website, bulletin boards, weekly announcements at church, and email announcements—a committee chair is needed to coordinate communication.
