Religious Exploration
First Univeralist Church offers programming for children in preschool on up to activities for junior and senior high youth. Programs are planned and coordinated by our Director of Religious Education with help from the RE Committee.
Classes are led by adult volunteers from the congregation who work in teaching teams for one of several different age groups. While teams commit to teach throughout the school year (September June), teachers rotate, so they teach some Sundays but have others to participate in the adult worship service or take the day off. In keeping with our church's Safe Congregation Policy, two adults oversee each class. Therefore, in addition to the adults who sign on to teaching teams, other adults and youth serve as assistants throughout the year.
To help us better meet the needs of all our young people, all children and youth (nursery through high school) must be registered for RE. Please stop by the Welcome Table in the vestry either before or after church to fill out the required registration forms.
There is no fee associated with participation in the RE Program, however, we do rely on the generosity of your support in the form of pledges to the annual church canvass. For those interested in making a special gift to the RE program, ask about our Wish List of books, equipment and supplies.
Our DRE, Jenn McAdoo, is happy to meet with you or your family to answer your questions or hear your concerns about the RE Program. Please stop by during her office hours (Mondays Thursdays, 9 a.m. noon), or call the church office to make an appointment.
Sunday Morning Schedule
| 10:15 a.m. |
Nursery care is available for children 3 and under. You may drop off your young children in the nursery before the start of the service (older children are invited to stay in the sanctuary with family members until being dismissed for RE). |
| 10:30 a.m. |
Church service begins. |
| 10:4511:45 a.m. |
Children in preschool through 6th grade are "sung out" of the sanctuary to their RE classes following a Story for Ages. The exception is when the service is intergenerational or there is no RE, in which case children are invited to remain in the sanctuary with their families. |
| 11:45 a.m. |
Immediately following the end of the service, parents are asked to pick up their children from the nursery and pre-K/K classroom before going to coffee hour in the vestry. All other children will be dismissed from their class and go directly to coffee hour. |
